Pop-Up Shop in Downtown Allentown

Second Chameleon Pop-Up Shop, Token 249, opens at City Center in Downtown Allentown

City Center Investment Corp., the real estate development company revitalizing downtown Allentown, Pennsylvania, announced today the first tenant of its new Chameleon Pop-up Shop in Three City Center, Perfect Fit Pop-Up Boutique, has extended its lease following an initial six-week run. Additionally, the gift shop Token 249 has opened in a new Chameleon Pop-up Shop in Two City Center.

Run by and benefitting the YWCA Allentown, Perfect Fit Pop-Up Boutique was originally to be open from Sept. 15 to Oct. 12, 2017, selling gently used designer goods, including clothes, purses, shoes, jewelry and accessories by such upscale brands as J. Crew, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Eileen Fisher, St. John, Tory Burch, Kate Spade, Michael Kors and Coach. Based on the popularity and success of the shop, YWCA Allentown has signed an extended lease for the space and hired its first employee. The shop was previously run by volunteers only.

City Center has opened a second Chameleon Pop-up Shop in Two City Center next to Starbucks, and its first tenant is Token 249, which sells jewelry, candles, greeting cards and small gifts. Owner Inger Olsen, who has two stores in Easton, Token 249 and Wicked, invites customers to “shop with your heart and your sense of humor.”

Token 249 will be open through Dec. 31, 2017. The shop’s hours are Mondays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hours will extend and include Sundays following Thanksgiving.

“I choose to open Token in Allentown because I like the vibe that's happening there right now,” Olsen said. “The growth, the new retail and businesses. Besides, everybody needs a little glitter now and then.”

Vendors can lease City Center’s Chameleon Pop-up Shops or space within them for between one day and several weeks, meaning multiple vendors may operate in the space simultaneously. For interested vendors with little to no experience with pop-up retail, City Center has created a guide to help ensure their success.

“Pop-up shops are upending the traditional rules of retail and redefining how brands interact with customers and introduce new products,” said City Center Real Estate Leasing Associate Natalia Stezenko. “Now more than ever, shoppers are demanding rich, immersive experiences over simple transactions. From online retailers feeling out a brick-and-mortar presence to national brands promoting a new product to Etsy merchants growing their customer base, businesses of all sizes can benefit from the pop-up shop model.”
